Conscriptio: Co-Designing Customization in Architecture
"Conscriptio" is an interactive system that allows visitors to explore the possibilities of algorithmic design in architecture. We showcase a digital interface, through which users can manipulate key parameters—climate conditions, spatial constraints, and social needs—to generate unique architectural configurations tailored to their needs. This process highlights how computational design can translate individual and collective input into dynamic spatial solutions.
At the exhibition, Conscriptio presents a real-time generative tool that visualizes how these variables impact form and function. The case study consists of a greenhouse-type structure that will vary to accommodate a majority of people // plants, different types of possible climates, and heat management. Seeing the impact of the different parameters in immediate transformation of architectural proposals, demonstrates the fluidity of design when shaped by multiple inputs. The work challenges traditional authorship in architecture, replacing top-down design with an open-ended process that invites participation.
Parametric tools play a crucial role in collective design, by incorporating technical data, numerical factors such as soil type, climate, heat, humidity into the design process, technology expands the possibilities of architecture, creating spaces that are not only responsive to people but also to the ecosystems they inhabit. By blending data-driven design with user choices, Conscriptio redefines customization beyond aesthetics, positioning it as a fundamental response to environmental and social contexts. The work on display is both a tangible demonstration of how technology can make architecture more adaptive, inclusive, and where design emerges as a collaboration between human intention and algorithmic intelligence.
