CUPIDS’S HUNTING FIELDS

Sculpture series Aesthetics of Information

® XAARCHIVE, XAARCHIVE STUDIO

The sculpture is cut from a single 4mm sheet of raw stainless steel. Its surface remains untreated — no polish, no coating — allowing the material to register light, oxidation, and the marks of fabrication. The figure emerges through subtraction: laser-cut contours define a body suspended between extension and collapse. What is removed becomes as important as what remains.

Installed in a private residence in Milan and acquired by a private collector, this work continues XAARCHIVE’s ongoing series Aesthetics of Information.

Through transcription and vectorization, a fluid, organic form is translated into machinic precision. The laser introduces a controlled incision — an exact, almost clinical gesture — while the steel absorbs the intensity of the cut. Edges are sharp yet vulnerable; the body appears simultaneously solid and perforated, stable and at risk of dispersal.

At 4mm thickness, the sheet reads as both drawing and object. From a distance it operates like a line in space; up close, it reveals weight and resistance. Light passes through the voids, projecting fragmented shadows that extend the figure onto surrounding surfaces. The work shifts throughout the day, activated by changing conditions.

In this series, the human figure becomes a field of forces — suspended between motion and arrest, desire and discipline. Technology is not used to smooth or perfect the body, but to re-encode it. Information becomes structure. Precision becomes matter.
